On this day last year, Barbara Boxer dressed down a brigadier general during a committee hearing, demanding that he call her “senator” because she had “worked so hard to get that title.” In case you’ve forgotten about the memorable exchange, here’s the clip for your viewing pleasure:
Shocking, isn’t it? But what’s even more shocking is the fact that this display of self-importance directed toward a member of our armed forces represents just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Barbara Boxer’s disrespectful treatment of our men and women in uniform. Boxer has voted against troop funding during times of war, and she has even rejected funding requests for body armor and for leave so that our troops can see their loved ones.
Boxer Voted Against Providing $847 Million In Additional Funds To The Defense Department For Military Personnel, Working Capital Funds, Mission-Critical Maintenance, Force Protection. (S.1077, CQ Vote #226: Motion Agreed To 83-16: R 36-12; D 46-4; I 1-0, 7/10/01, Boxer and Feinstein Voted Yea)
In 2003, Boxer Was One Of Just 12 Senators To Oppose The $87 Billion Supplemental Appropriation For The Reconstruction For Iraq And Afghanistan. (S. 1689, CQ Vote #400: Passed 87-12: R 50-0; D 37-11; I 0-1, 10/17/03, Boxer Voted Nay and Feinstein Voted Yea)
This Package Included “[E]xtra Money For Body Armor For Soldiers, Communications Equipment.” (“Highlights Of Iraq, Afghanistan Measures,” The Associated Press, 10/17/03)Funding For “[M]aintaining And Operating Equipment; Buying Missiles, Vehicles And Other Items.” (“Highlights Of Iraq, Afghanistan Measures,” The Associated Press, 10/17/03)
“[A]ccess To The Benefits Of The Family Medical Leave Act For A Spouse, Son, Daughter, Or Parent Of An Employee Who Is A Member Of The Armed Forces In Support Of Operations.” (Senate Republican Policy Committee, “Funding For Our Men And Women In The Armed Forces,” S. 1689, 2/04)
Of course, we couldn’t let today’s anniversary go by without at least a few festivities. So in commemoration of the day, you are invited to say “No, Ma’am” to another six years of Barbara Boxer by clicking here to send your friends an anniversary postcard telling them why you’ve had enough of her less-than-honorable service in the U.S. Senate.
This fall, Barbara Boxer wants to extend her political career to 40 years. But in the last 34, she has repeatedly refused to stand up for our men and women in uniform, who have put their lives on the line in the name of defending our freedoms. Our troops are willing to do whatever it takes to defend the United States, its citizens and its government; but with Barbara Boxer representing us in the U.S. Senate, it looks like those feelings may not be mutual.
