A Harsh Reality

Last week, during a conference call about federal energy grants, Barbara Boxer repeated a claim we’ve come to know and reject:

Boxer Says Federal Grants “Will Spur Job Creation.” “Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who joined Chu on the call, said the grants — $22 million of which went to companies in California — will spur job creation. ‘These will be products made in America again,’ Boxer said.

To be clear, we’re all for innovation in energy efficiency. But it seems that, yet again, Barbara Boxer is making the fundamental claim that increased government spending will create jobs. It’s a claim we hear from her a lot, but it’s neither innovative nor efficient…and, worst of all, it’s simply not true.

Throughout the course of her 28 years in Washington, Barbara Boxer has consistently demonstrated that she believes bigger government and increased government spending is the solution to every problem. But, as we’ve seen with the government-spending monstrosity that is the $862 billion economic “stimulus” plan, which has failed to create the jobs Boxer promised California, more government spending does not mean more jobs.
