:Just two weeks ago, millionaire Senator Barbara Boxer was trekking (actually, flying in a G3) around California talking about the jobs "saved or created" by the economic stimulus plan. But with hundreds of thousands MORE Californians unemployed today than when the stimulus plan passed in February 2009, it seems the newsflash that Americans have not been fooled by the funny math used to calculate the "effectiveness" of the economic "stimulus" plan has finally made its way over to the Boxer camp. So today, Boxer is turning to a new Election Year argument that green jobs are the key to our economy's recovery.
Unfortunately for Americans across the country, we've already seen a glimpse of Barbara Boxer's green "jobs" plan – it's called cap and trade. And it's actually going to cost taxpayers more of their hard-earned money and kill American jobs … not create them.
Cap-And-Trade Could Cost American Families $1,761 A Year. "The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent. A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration's estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year." (Declan McCullagh, "Obama Admin: Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year," CBSNews.com, 9/15/09)Don't get us wrong. We are all for green jobs – in fact, we're for jobs of any kind. What we're not for is Boxer parading around at the same solar plant Democrat after Democrat visits (it appears they're a little short on examples of companies lucky enough to have the business to create jobs) acting as if their story is the rule rather than the exception.
Boxer's Bill Would Have Led To "Job Losses Exceeding 2.5 Million." "Should S. 1733 become law, Americans can expect the following to occur between enactment and the year 2035 (all figures are adjusted for inflation): Inflation-adjusted losses to gross domestic product (GDP) of $9.9 trillion; More than $4.6 trillion in higher energy taxes; Job losses exceeding 2.5 million for some years; Annual family-of-four energy costs rising by $1,000, including a gasoline price increase of more than $1.20 per gallon; Annual family-of-four energy costs plus increased cost of goods and services totaling more than $3,000; Average GDP loss per family of four above $4,500 per year; Family-of-four net worth dropping by more than $40,000; and The family of four's share of the national debt rising by an additional $27,000." Earth to Team Boxer: Americans want jobs, green or otherwise. People didn't buy your argument two weeks ago about the stimulus, and they won't buy this either because the facts don't fit the story you're trying to tell. Millions of Californians are out of work. Our national debt is at record levels. And the only solution is the one Barbara Boxer has promoted for more than 30 years as a politician: more burden on the taxpayer to fund more growth in government. True to form, Barbara Boxer is long on rhetoric and short on results.
