The Jobs Outlook: Dismal

Today, we received the disappointing news that 95,000 American jobs were lost last month. Our unemployment rate stands at a shocking 9.6 percent – another sure sign that the so-called economic stimulus plan Barbara Boxer claimed would bring “help and hope” has instead brought despair.

Since the stimulus passed, our nation has lost more than 3 million jobs and sustained 17 months of consecutive unemployment above 9 percent. Currently there are 14.7 million Americans unemployed and 41.8 million Americans on food stamps.

We’re in the middle of an economic crisis and what’s happening to our taxpayer dollars? Turns out tens of thousands of payments from Boxer’s stimulus plan are actually going to people who are either dead or in prison.

About $22 Million In Stimulus Funds Went To People Who Were Either Dead Or In Prison. “More than 89,000 stimulus payments of $250 each went to people who were either dead or in prison, a government investigator says in a new report…[A]bout $18 million went to nearly 72,000 people who were dead, according to the report by the Social Security Administration’s inspector general … an additional $4.3 million went to more than 17,000 prison inmates, the report said.” (Stephen Ohlemacher, “72,000 Stimulus Ppayments Went To Dead People,” Associated Press, 10/7/10)

Even more interesting is the fact that Barbara Boxer has said she’s no worried about stimulus oversight.

Boxer Has Claimed She Is “Not Concerned About The Oversight” Of The Stimulus. MSNBC’s NORAH O’DONNELL: “You got a Republican member of the Senate, Senator Tom Coburn, who’s got this new report out today that says there’s a hundred wasteful items of spending in this stimulus proposal. Do you agree with that? Are you concerned about the oversight with the stimulus bill?” BOXER: “I’m not concerned about the oversight.” (MSNBC’s “News,” 6/16/09)

Makes you wonder … maybe Boxer knows in her heart of hearts that the stimulus isn’t working and it’s not saving or creating the 400,000 jobs she promised the people of this state. So the question remains: How can Barbara Boxer continue to pretend the stimulus has worked? Is she still “not concerned” about the oversight of the failed plans she championed?

Sounds like the only thing Barbara Boxer IS concerned about is her own job.
